On October 15th, Prof. Phil Harris, vice president of University of Chester (UOC) and director of China Center, Irene Harris, senior researcher, and Mr. Shen Rong, chief representative of UOC, made a visit to QNU. Leaders of QNU, ie. Zhu Shize, Qu Guangqing and Huang Jiangkun, met with the guests. Attendees at the conference also included directors from office of the Party and administration, office of foreign affairs, office of academic affairs, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Tan Siu Lin Business School.
Party secretary Zhu Shize, on behalf of QNU, welcomed the visit of Mr. Harris and the delegation. He hoped that in the future, the two sides would make full use of their own advantages in running schools, share high-quality resources, and focus on diversified cooperation in undergraduate and postgraduate education. Harris commented that QNU owns unique regional superiority and local education features. In the future, the two universities have broad space for cooperation in personnel training, academic research and so on. President of QNU Qu Guangqing awarded Harris the appointment of guest professor. Zhu Shize exchanged souvenirs with Harris, wearing the school badge of QNU for Harris, and then a group photo was taken.
At the symposium, the two sides also discussed and reached consensus on the details of cooperation in such projects as master straight entrance and semester exchange.
During the visit, Harris and his delegation went to the School of Literature and Communication and the School of Music and Dance, experiencing Chinese calligraphy and Nanyin music. Prof. Harris and his wife, as well as Mr. Shen Rong, expressed great interest in and spoke highly of QNU's inheritance and protection of traditional culture.
UOC, founded in 1839, is one of the oldest comprehensive public universities in the UK. It is also the first normal university in the UK. Now it has more than 20000 students, 8 departments and colleges, and undergraduate, master and doctoral courses.
